The California Children's Services (CCS) Program is California's medical program for treating children diagnosed with certain physically disabling medical conditions. CCS is a statewide program that arranges, directs, and pays for medical care, equipment, and rehabilitation, when these services are authorized by the program. Services can be authorized for children and young adults under 21 years of age who have eligible medical conditions and whose families are unable to pay for all or part of their care. CCS defines eligibility and selects the most qualified professionals to treat the child's CCS eligible condition. It is important for you to know that CCS is not a health insurance program. It will not meet all of your child's health needs, only those related to the CCS eligible condition.

 Eligible Conditions

CCS eligible conditions include:

  • cystic fibrosis
  • hemophilia
  • cerebral palsy
  • heart disease
  • cancer
  • traumatic injuries

How to Receive Services

  1. Children's condition is found: ask your child's doctor if your child has any of the CCS eligible medical conditions. If so, either you or the doctor can call the CCS office to refer your child.
  2. Referral: A referral must be made. Anyone can refer a child to CCS, including parents. The referral will work best if medical information is given to CCS at the time of referral. If your child needs to be referred because he or she is in a hospital, ask the attending doctor or hospital social worker to refer your child within 24 hours after admission.
  3. Application & Eligibility: After the referral to CCS, parents must still fill out an application and a financial eligibility form and meet all four eligibility requirements (age, residency, financial, and medical).
  4. Services Given: If CCS determines that your child is eligible, your child can then receive services.
