The Yolo County EMS Agency certifies and renews EMT-1 in accordance with Division 2.5 of the Health and Safety Code of Regulations Title 22.  EMT certification is recognized statewide.  See information below on how to become a California certified EMT through Yolo County.

Important Reminders, please read:

  • ***You will receive a submission confirmation from seamless.doc, not YEMSA.***
  • In order to maintain YEMSA certification/accreditation you must keep ALL of your certifications current (i.e. CPR, ACLS, PALS) and submit for renewal prior to your YEMSA expiration.
  • All applications take 10 business days to process, so please plan accordingly. The process cannot be rushed and you may not practice on an expired certification/accreditation.  Our business days are M-F 8 am-5 pm.
  • We are experiencing delays with DOJ & FBI results.  We cannot process any applications until fingerprinting results are received.
  • Prior to starting the online application process, you must have your cards/documents copied electronically and ready to be uploaded.
  • Be sure to read the application checklist prior to starting the online application process.
  • YEMSA must be notified in writing within 30 days of any changes to an applicant's mailing address or other contact information. See link below.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification

Initial

Please Note:  An EMT Certification is valid Statewide and you may apply for EMT Certification in any County/LEMSA.  However, it is strongly recommended to apply for certification in the county of your employment. This is so you are notified of current policies, protocols, and any pertinent changes that may affect your daily responsibilities as an EMT.  EMTs are required to be knowledgeable of and to adhere to the policies and protocols of the county in which they work in.

Renewing

  • NOTICE: Termination of COVID-19 Pandemic Waivers for EMT Recertification

If you wish to apply for recertification prior to expiration of the waiver and without completing an EMT Skills Verification Form, you will need to submit your application and associated paperwork to Yolo County EMS Agency by close of business on June 28, 2022. This deadline will allow time to verify the documentation submitted, assist those whose submission is incorrect or incomplete and then process the application with the CA EMS Authority by the June 30, 2022 deadline.

Renewal applications received after June 28, 2022 may not be processed before expiration of the waiver. All EMT recertification applications processed after June 30, 2022 will require a completed EMT Skills Verification form. If you have any questions concerning this memo, please contact Terry Weisser at terry.weisser@yolocounty.org.

  • Effective July 1, 2019, recertifying EMTs must include CE Certificate or EMT Refresher Course that states training on “epi, naloxone and glucometer” on the certificates.
